Ouch!

I kind of agree (I've written disparagingly about web programming before) but really, I don't think that listing the things that trad programmers have to do that web programmers don't constitutes an argument, or proves that they're 'not smart enough' to do anything else.

All that stuff about compilers and abstract classes isn't there because that's necessarily the way that programming should be built - it's just the outcome of the more complex desktop environment. Web apps are simpler to write because the web is like the ultimate abstraction layer. I used to hear guys complaining about C programmers being soft touches because they'd learnt to program on punch cards and compiler language (sorry if my terminology is off - I ain't a programmer myself).

And I've seen enough poorly designed desktop software to suggest that not every trad programmer knows about process or design, present company excepted.

(Also - I nearly didn't let your comment through for calling yourself "seo web design" but I let it slide because I enjoyed your rant :) Bravo!)

I would like to share some inforamtion that The reason most people want to program for the web is that they're not smart enough to do anything else. They don't understand compilers, concurrency, 3D or class inheritance. They haven't got a clue why I'd use an interface or an abstract class. They don't understand: virtual methods, pointers, references, garbage collection, finalizers, pass-by-reference vs. pass-by-value, virtual C++ destructors, or the differences between C# structs and classes. They also know nothing about process. Waterfall? Spiral? Agile? Forget it. They've never seen a requirements document, they've never written a design document, they've never drawn a UML diagram, and they haven't even heard of a sequence diagram.
