Think Visibility Leeds 2010: come and see Carps in the flesh!

So I’ve just heard from Dom Hodgson that my application to speak at Think Visibility 201o has been accepted. I don’t know when the dates and times will be, but I’ll be sure to let you know in due course.

My talk is tentatively (and alliteratively) titled “Use and abuse the news or lose” and will look at how to leverage topical subjects to your advantage for links, content and reach. It’s long been a fascination of mine and I’ve got some pretty trenchant views on how the news is both made and used. In the current climate of regurgitated press releases and 24/7 rolling content there’s a lot of opportunities out there for businesses and individuals to utilise news channels to their advantage and hopefully I’ll get to touch on quite a few of them.

It’ll be a slightly odd experience for me I guess, unaccustomed as I am to public speaking, etc. I’m not particularly afraid of it though. When you’ve played a gig at CJs in Kirkstall with the landlord locking the door to prevent a shedload of lairy teenagers coming in to kick your head in, the prospect of standing up in front of some guys and talking about your job seems pretty straightforward.

If you do come: don’t bother heckling unless you want a public smackdown :)

    Ooh, a challenge.

  2. Carps says:

Hmmm. Note to self: remember the kind of readership you have

  3. Zoe says:

Dude, you forgot the most important part of your title… “…and cats”

Will any UFO press cuttings be making an appearance? ;)
