[NOTE: It's a bit gay being a fully fledged website designer, developer and marketer and not being bothered enough to throw together a proper website for the band. You know that life is starting to spin off kilter somewhere when a wrinkly, grey-haired dude grabs you by the lapels and asks you where he can find you online and you don't really have an answer. But, until we *have* got a website, I'll just use this place

Harrogate’s Blues Bar is the kind of place that every town should have by law. It’s a snug little bar serving a decent selection of proper ale alongside fizzy lager drinks for the kids and is set up for one thing: live music in a cool, informal setting. Monday night is open mic, wherein any Tom, Dick or Harry can turn up with some instrumentation and bang out a few tunes with other musicians. As we’re still getting back in gear with the whole Not Just Playing Sporadically In Our Bedrooms thing, it seemed like a top chance to bang out some music in a live setting without the pressure and general arsehole of doing a proper gig.
Which is exactly what we did. Den is now a proper member of the band, as could be told when his top E string snapped during the first tune. Originally he was just going to augment our guitar sound, but if he carries on it that vein he’ll rapidly usurp my entire position in the band. Anyway, it was a truncated set of a little over 20 minutes, using other people’s gear with no soundcheck, vocal monitors or pay, but it was still fucking ace. Afterwards we got to chat some of the dudes who hang around places like this – the odd drummer and/or guitarist and we’ve started the long, painful road of building a contact book to get regular gigs. I also heard the worst anecdote ever, which built remorselessly over the course of many minutes until it fizzled out into the void of an embarrassed silence. Ah well, fuck him.
Setlist:
- Mississippi Fishcake Blues
- All Your Loving (the Clapton/John Mayall version)
- You Got It In You
- Bottles of Pills
- In The End
