Sometime around 5 years ago we effectively stopped being a live band. Prior to that, we’d done hundreds of gigs over the course of a decade. Then we gradually ground to a halt because, well, nobody was listening. After about a decade as a sloppy, lazy three piece, we’ve finally sourced ourselves a proper second guitarist. And by ‘second guitarist’ I mean: holy fucking hell! So this year we’ve now played more gigs than we have probably in the last 5.
This was the third gig in what was billed as “a battle of the bands” but was actually more a series of fundraising gigs in memory of Neil Platt – a school friend who died tragically young from motor neurone disease. He kept a blog of his battle until pretty much the day he died, and I can’t recommend reading it enough. Somehow, despite our live rust we found ourselves announced as the winners of the whole thing.
Anyway, we done good. Easily our best gig this year – even though rehearsals have been sparse with the rhythm section breeding like fucking rabbits of late. £5oo winner’s prize too.
If you’re sick of reading the same fucking setlist – or worse still, hearing it – then fear ye not, for we have a raft of new material and covers alike waiting in the wings.
