I don’t profess to be an enourmous expert in the field of Google Product feeds. I know they exist, I know roughly how to optimise them and the opportunities that are available, but compared to the body of knowledge that’s available on the subject of SEO, this increasingly important aspect of web marketing is relatively underdocumented – despite the massive implications it can have for companies looking to shortcut the normal slog to the top of the SERPs (hint: every ecommerce retailer).
One thing that is becoming apparent to me is that there is definitely an ageing filter going on here. Here are some stats from a feed that has basically hardly changed since its inception (despite a weekly upload).

Organically speaking, there doesn’t seem to be a massive spike in traffic for the same products (where the site also ranks well) and there isn’t much seasonality with this product so my hunch is that the continual presence and updating of the feed is sending a quality signal to Google – an ageing filter in all but name.
I do hope so, because that means that if the trending continues like this for another 18 months I’ll be quids in!
