I was clicking around the BBC just now and I stumbled across what looks like a test of a new homepage design. Haven’t seen it before myself, so if it’s old news then whatever… but here it is (highlights below):
It’s not too radical a departure from the existing design, but here’s the highlights, such as they are:
- Featured stories/links given full-width run across top of the site
- News dropped down below the new full width banner
- The switcher thing that moves between the features in the top banner
- Added top navigation to popular categories
- Green? Really? All BBC idents at the moment are done in a distinctive red
- Ah – but actually there’s a load of custom options in the footer
Assuming that they don’t notice this link for a while, bob over and have a look for yourself to see what you make of it.




Think I like the old/current one better. Can’t see how the page benefits from the changes.
They call it a beta test of a new homepage.
It’s there so they can gather bug reports and feedback before making it the default homepage.
