Hardly a surprise. Microsoft have got no role on the web today other than as a provider of a venerable old email system. No blame for them: they were too late to the game and the company culture and architecture is too wedded to the desktop to change. Possibly forever.
Once the action moved from mainframes to the desktop, unsexy companies like IBM/Oracle/Unix/Whatever just carried on ploughing their furrow. They’re still with us, and still massive, but Web 2.0 is about as relevant to them as the three wheeled seed drill.
Microsoft should learn the lesson and retreat from the web.
