<description>It’s suspicious that the tax is not levied by the ISP. Therefore I think it’s a bogus revenue boost for BT.

And I agree that it wont go away, and it wont stay at 6 quid a year for long either. Next year it’ll be 50 and then 90 and so forth – once it’s in the door that is.

Also, im not paying it! My dsl line is pants. I get a rotten speed and it’s up and down more often than a whore’s drawers. I haven’t used my BT phone for literally months, it’s unplugged and it stays that way otherwise it rings all the time from incessant timewasters and telemarketers.

A while back I found out I can plug a SIM card into my router. I get HSDPA from the router and all the computers and wireless work as normal. It’s great! It’s even faster than my DSL some of the time, but I don’t plug it in because I need my mobile to work.

I am really dumb, because only this week, after thinking about this tax, has it occurred to me to get a SECOND data sim contract! I get unmetered HSDPA for 10 quid a month, but my DSL costs 15 plus 11 + VAT for the line rental. So im paying 27 instead of 10 for a load of old toss – how daft is that!

That’s it, im cancelling my landline and land based DSL. As tommy cooper said,
