Gisele Bundchen may as fit as hell, but she’s also dumber than a sack of marmalade. According to the empty-headed siren of the catwalks :
“Some people think they don’t have to breastfeed, and I think ‘Are you going to give chemical food to your child when they are so little? I think there should be a worldwide law, in my opinion, that mothers should breastfeed their babies for six months,”
This issue really gets my personal goat. My wife found breastfeeding to be the hardest, most stressful and painful thing about having a baby. After 2 months of pain, heartache and £200s worth of nipple cream, I finally persuaded her that it simply wasn’t worth the tears and the tiredness.
Frankly I’d have had her give it up after 2 weeks.
And then I’d come home from work to find her in tears, trying to squeeze drops out for the boy in a state of near-desperation. In the interim, a health worker would have been been. Armed with pamphlets and a shiny-eyed zealotary that ONLY BREAST MILK WORKS and COW AND GATE WERE FOUNDED BY NAZI WAR CRIMINALS. Essentially, she would bully my wife into “one more go”. In her own home. Exactly whose tits were they??
After the 3rd such occurrence, I gave serious thought to staying at home one day to stop them coming in by means of the toe of my boot.
Breast feeding is one of the most personal things a woman can do (legally, anyway) and that makes it a very personal choice to make. The key word here being “personal”. It’s perhaps easier for Gisele with an army of nutritionists on hand and probably not doing her own laundry and shit.
Anyway, she can now been added to the ever-spiralling roster of people who mistake having a public profile with having the right or responsibility to lecture the rest of us poor schlubs about our personal choices. Jamie Oliver, Bono, every tedious, breast-beating hanger-on to every quango and campaign and “let’s have a debate about….” start-up with a press campaign and a celebrity you can think of… you know the crowd.
Just. Shut. Up.

Carps I don’t know what your problem is, I was breast fed for the first 28 years of my life and it didn’t do me any harm *stares*
wonder how many chemicals bundchen is smearing on her face on a daily basis? stupid bint.
Brilliantly put!
bet breastfeeding’s the reason her boobs got so big
She should mind her own business- these filthy rich celebrities think that all of their money gives them some kind of authority over others. Give me a break!
I hope your child didn’t get any long term damage from the chemicals, such as melamine, that seem to be found in most commercial.
The nurses push breastfeeding because it’s best for the child, not whether or not it’s comfortable for the mom. If you really want comfort, don’t have a child in the first place.
That’s absolutely right John and people such as you should absolutely not only tell us what to do, but whether we’re fit to be parents. We’ll give the kids away this instant. The mastitis sufferers of the world thank you.
Prick
Well, at least Carps signed his last post with his real name.
“Gisele Bundchen may as fit as hell, but she’s also dumber than a sack of marmalade”
Should be ‘Gisele Bundchen may BE fit as hell, but she’s also dumber than a sack of marmalade’
You now sound like a dumb ass.
Wow. Picking up on typos on Christmas day. I hope 2011 works out a lot better for you.
Is this really this big a deal? Breast feeding is better for the child. It’s extremely painful for some women and not so for others, but that doesn’t change the fact that it is better for the child. I’m sure Gisele isn’t implying that people suffering from mastitis should continue to breast feed as that can be deadly, however there are many women who choose not to breast feed, not because it’s painful, but because they don’t wish to spend the time on it. In those cases I think Gisele is right, and those women should take better care of their children. I also don’t think Gisele intended to insult so many people, I think she merely was pointing out that women who neglect their children are irresponsible. And do we really need to be calling each other pricks over something a celebrity said? After all, as you said Carps, it’s Christmas Day. A little peace and kindness maybe? Those nurses should not be forcing a mom to breast feed if it’s painful to the point of tears, but that doesn’t change the fact that women should at least try to breast feed their children. If it doesn’t work out then stop.
Also Gisele is a babe.
Hi Anon – Merry Christmas to you too, and the “prick” comment was some months ago, so I’m not spoiling the festive mood!
Bundchen actually said “there should be a worldwide law” enforcing breast feeding – which is way beyond just saying “women should try to breastfeed”. Surely no-one outside a lunatic fringe actually believes they should enforce it by law?
And anyway: why should women do a particular thing just because they happen to think it’s right? What right does anyone have to tell anyone what to do in these matters? Millions of kids have grown up without ever tasting a drop of mum’s milk to absolutely no detriment.
Breast feeding your child is the best thing you can do for your child.
Period. Whatever a mother decides is her prerogative. Not everyone can’t be SuperMoms.
Author you are an idiot.
There is nothing wrong with what Gisele said, and the fact that your wife cannot breastfeed does not change that. Yes some women cannot breastfeed, some CHOOSE not to breastfeed, but it is known that exclusive breastfeeding is best, and this has been stated by many people (some even old, ugly men).
Find a way to deal with your inadequacies to help your wife in her time of need rather than attacking a woman who has said nothing new.
Again, you are an idiot.
And anyway: why should women do a particular thing just because they happen to think it’s right? What right does anyone have to tell anyone what to do in these matters? Millions of kids have grown up without ever tasting a drop of mum’s milk to absolutely no detriment.
Wow, your idiocy is beyond belief…
Whatever.
Honestly I think the man has a point. I wholly concur that breast-milk is the very best food for babies. But there are many mothers who cannot breastfeed despite their intense desire to do so, and there are a lot of self-righteous Breastfeeding Nazis that make these mothers feel as if they are poisoning their children with formula or destroying all future prospects they might have had to be a Michael Jordan or an Albert Einstein. Gisele’s comment is just an example of the ignorance and insensitivity that many people reflect in their otherwise admirable campaign to advocate breast-feeding.
As a mother of three, I was made to feel like an udder failure (mispelling and pun intended), because I could not produce enough milk for my babies and had to supplement and eventually replace breast-milk altogether with formula. I tried all kinds of diet suggestions and nutritional supplements supposedly designed to increase milk production, as well as consulting lactation experts, but to no avail. With my third I would try breast-feeding, (but he was a smart one and realized there was nothing coming out and so would not even waste his time latching on), then I would feed him the bottle with formula, then I would spend an hour on the pumps to squeeze out maybe 1-2 ounces if I was lucky. It became my whole existence until I finally realized I couldn’t keep it up, especially since I would shortly be returning to work. But I still felt bombarded with much grief and guilt because of the judgmental and insensitive comments from many people including my pediatrician, some of my friends, my mother, and definitely the media. Breast-feeding is the best option, but there are plenty of healthy and athletic, formula-fed valedictorians out there.
Katia, thank you – a wave of sense and humanity in a boiling sea of holier-than-thou attitudes
I think Gisele was talking about mothers who do not breast-feed because they do not want too (in order to preserve their breast beauty, for example). As she is a top model, and taken as an example for many people, she tried to convince people how important it is.
I don’t think she is stupid. I think that you must be top intelligent to become a mega top model and earn much more money than we would only dream about.
Regarding the Breast feeding debate…. I wonder what makes Mrs. Brady think she’s an expert on what makes a good mother or not…?? She’s all of 28 years old and only has one child of her own. Those two facts alone makes her even less of an expert!! Let alone the fact that I don’t recall reading that she has a medical degree of any sort to base her “ideas” on. Actually quite the opposite..she sounds like someone that doesn’t have a clue about the pro’s and con’s of breastfeeding. First off NOT all women are able to breastfeed. Due to many different factors, Including the mothers health and the baby’s health. Some women don’t even “make” proper milk for the baby or It can be LOW in nutrients and it can cause the baby to actually be malnourished and many other things beyond the mother’s control. Sometimes it can be Psychological as well. . And just because a women chooses not to breastfeed does NOT determine if she’s a good mother or not. Gisele needs to experience life a bit longer before passing judgment on others (a 28 y/o is not one I’d listen to) .
I’m sure lots of people think a “mother” being 1/2 naked in public, either by strutting her stuff on stage or in a magazine, looking like a slut isn’t such a good “motherly” image either. But, that doesn’t seem to bother Mrs. Brady now does it? lol I personally could care less what she does. It’s NOT my business and it shouldn’t be her business if other women breastfeed their children or not. ” People that live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones” !!
Oh and for the MEN on here that “think” they know what a women should do..give me a break..! You have NO idea anything about the subject. You may have observed your wife or “hear” women voicing their opinions regarding this issue. But, stay out of the debate, You guys really have NO Clue! That’s kind of like a women pretending to know what it feels like to be kicked in the balls. I could say “OMG why would you cower at just a little “tap”on the crotch and Like a little baby you’re down on the ground crying”…give me a break. I don’t understand why it hurts so bad…!! But, then I don’t have balls so I guess I can’t judge you for that and You can’t give birth or breastfeed, so don’t pretend you know what you’re talking about either…YOU DON’T!!
*To sum it up, the Prisons are full of BAD parents and people that have abused kids, mentally and physically. We have lots more devastating things to worry about regarding a child’s well being and it’s NOT if they were breastfeed or not. If NOT being breastfeed is the only thing that makes someone a bad parent..We would be very blessed. So Ms Gisele should put her money were her mouth is and help out those children. I’d like to see her come to work with me and see the children I treat everyday. Some are blind, some have brain damage or are crippled and can’t walk and others suffer from emotional problem. These are only some of the affects from being abused….REALLY abused, from BAD parents and caregivers. I’m sure if all those kids could trade places with the kids who’s worse childhood issue was NOT being breastfeed. They would definitely trade places in a minute. So yeah, Ms Gisele, “Get a life”, you can’t see the Forest for the trees”!! I’m a licensed Therapist, believe me there is much bigger issues we should be concerned about!!!!
