BBC hiding content, links

Nice and clean

Nice and clean

Cheeky!

Cheeky!

We all know that the BBC dominate the SERPs because they’re whiter than white, right? All that quality journalism and well-honed site architecture? Well I happened across a page that not only hides big blocks of content, but also has some nice fat authority outlinks to various commercial operations. And so far as I can see there’s no way to access all this unless you turn off CSS or dig around in the source code.

In a way, there’s nothing wrong with sending links out to sites with further information (and thank god for that!) but hiding them like this? I’m sure the Beeb has got nothing to hide but Google cheerily indexes this page without a care in the world. You wonder if your common-or-garden website would get such leverage. And then you’d remember: they wouldn’t.
