ASDA Home Delivery: Fail

I used to work at ASDA. Loved it. Wore a tabbard, flirted with the old ladies – once spent a day killing scorpions out back with a hammer (true story!) That made me a tediously loyal customer for many years. Anyway, since WAL*MART took over, I’ve detected a distinct and continuous slide in the company in many ways.

Firstly, the ‘just in time’ ordering system seems to work perfectly, apart from the ‘just in time’ part. You can stroll in at any time from 6pm at night and find the grocery aisle in particular to be populated mainly by empty boxes and disinterested teenagers moping around in green jumpers declaring their ‘happiness’ to help. Just no actual groceries.

Secondly, while they’ve been racking up the ‘cheapest supermarket in Britain’ accolade for the last 11 years, they’ve clearly been achieving that by subsidising the standard basket through some pretty sharp practice. Sticking “extra special” labels on previously standard products – along with a quid on the price (Chorizo sausage, if you want a concrete example). Another nifty tactic is selling ‘multisave products’ that are more expensive than the single items (covered here).

Anyway, I’m dimly aware that this is becoming an extremely fucking tedious whinge, but of late me and the Good Lady Wife have started ordering from their online home delivery service.

So we placed an order on Sunday morning and chose a delivery slot for 6-8 on the Tuesday. 7:20 on the delivery day. Cancellation. Non-english speaker. We can phone back. No number left to do so. 18 minutes on hold to the main customer service number. No delivery till Thursday. No fucking good. Empty fridge. No milk. £10 e-voucher. No thanks. Don’t want to use the service. Want money. No-one phones back. No delivery is made. Further 23 minute phone call at our expense. “Oh dear”. No. No refund. Still no delivery. No address to write to. No email address to use. No email detailing why or how the order was cancelled. Still no call back. Customer service rep has “28 complaints on hold”. Honest, but let’s be frank: no fucking good. etc etc etc.

In conclusion: ASDA home delivery. Don’t bother.

As a home shopping driver for Asda I feel your pain.

Rarther than calling the call centre, call the local store that would actally be doing their delivery. (although your not supposed to your much more likly to get a decent responce and no stupid hold times) I never did understand why your not suposed to ring the store directly, The first thing the call center does after hanging up on you, is call the store anyway ….. So its just adding a 3rd (bearly able to speak english) person into the mix for no reason.

I wouldn’t order home shopping from Asda, and I deliver it.

I have a MILLION other gripes with asda. but i wont go into them now. I may just start my own blog about it instead :)

Ordered online on Sunday for Monday delivery between 4 and 6pm. Its now Tuesday afternoon and despite 6 phone calls and 6 promises for them to call me back, no shopping. I have demanded my money back which they refuse to do and so I called my credit card company. They inform me they Asda are in breach of contract and that they will get the cost cancelled. Forms are being posted out to me tonight to fill in so that Credit Card company can challenge the payment for me. I always use a credit card to shop online in order to have some way to recover my money from internet fraudsters like Asda who take peoples money and dont deliver the goods. If somebody did this online as a private individual it would be labelled a scam and the perpetrator would be brought to justice, Asda however, seem to be allowed to do this and avoide the legal consequences.

I purchased my groceries from Asda two weeks ago. It was to be delivered on a Friday evening between 6 and 8pm. At 10pm it still had not arrived so I phoned their customer service department which would appear to be based in South Africa. The women I spoke to rang the store which was to make the delivery and they confirmed that it was still scheduled to arrive that evening. However, it never arrived and it was not delivered the next day even though I waited in all day long.

I rang the customer service hotline again on Saturday evening and they told me that someone from the store would phone me on Monday to rearrange delivery. However, nobody phoned and nobody delivered! Now I discover that I have been charged for this non existent delivery. I have written to head office but after a week I have still not received a reply.

Due to ill health I have been having my groceries delivered to my house for the past six year from other supermarkets and I have never experienced problems before. I really am at my whits end with this. Asda seem to have no interest whatsoever in actually providing me with my goods even though I have paid them nearly £100. They just don’t seem interested!

Surely someone must have noticed that I have never signed for these groceries. It is just beyond belief!

WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP ASDA IS.
I had a delivery that was late two people turned up slamed the baskets on the doorstep, and watched as i struggled to lift the big bag of dog food and the rest of my shopping, not a hint of help just to ad here im disabled not allowed to lift any heavy objects. then after not helping or saying a word and just watching the yonger bloke said sign it and was gone , i then found that the bacon packet had a whole in and was off, contacted the shop was told they would bring one out , nothing next day rang again was told by manager they dont bring one item funny they have before, anyway iwas asked who told me that and i told the manager his name sorry we dont have anyone here of that name. so now im being called a lier too add insult to injury he says come to the stor i cant i says thats why i have delivery he was so rude . ive complained to the asda head office but have had no reply no refund for the bacon and no appolergy. asda you stink. im getting in touch with watch dog enviromental health and papers.

A quick tip (as someone briefly already stated) for those of you who have contacted ASDA on the “Customer Service” number at the top of the receipt, don’t bother!!

Instead, if you know which store the deliveries are sent out from, look it up on the ASDA store locator, on the ASDA website and get the direct number. There should be an option for Home Shopping. It will take you direct to the Home Shopping department in that store (not over-seas), and a good percentage of the time the manager will be able to resolve the matter that day!!

Original delivery was set for 6pm-8pm on a Monday. It didn’t arrive, called the branch who said it was because there had been a road accident and major traffic jams which meant it would not be able to deliver that evening. I changed it to 12pm-2pm the next day and It’s now 4.30pm and it’s still not here. I’ve called up the branch about four times and left my number and contact details with various people who said they would call me back and they have not done so thus far. I tried ringing them again but ran out of calling credit because there bloody numbers are not free to call. I’m not topping up just so I can ring ASDA and waste another £5 credit on them. It’s not the first time I’ve had problems with this service. It’s dreadful and I want my food!
